shop NEWS

If you read our blog regularly, you probably know that we have an Etsy shop. We have so many ideas for new handmade products in our shop. In order to focus more on the new things, we have decided to discontinue the hair tie section of our shop. To speed up the process we have lowered all the prices of the hair ties and elastic headbands in our shop. We have plenty of hair ties left to sell so if you are interested in buying some, head to our shop. The prices are now ridiculously low and our hair ties don't fray so... it's a pretty sweet dealio. Down below are some pics of a few things we are getting rid of and a few things that we are going to try to make more of. The hair ties above come in sets of 10, 50, and 100.

If you'd like to help us out, head to our shop and get you some hair ties! You're welcome to buy other things too...we love selling our stuff!

fundraiser AND A GIVEAWAY WITH RAZOO

We are excited to share with you a website, Razoo.com, that helps you raise funds or donate to an organization or person of your choice. Through Razoo, we have created a fundraiser for New Hope Haiti Mission.
We believe in God, love, and community, and we know all of these are tightly connected. Savannah and I have a wonderful community through our church, The Eden Gate. Out of that community formed a smaller community that we like to call Joyce Lane Farms. Our dear friends, Josh and Allison Tinius are a part of that tiny community. We are currently living in their house while they live the dream this summer. Then, in August, they are going to be missionaries in Haiti. They will be working alongside the Salvant family who work with orphans in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. We are raising money for their orphanage- New Hope Haiti Mission. This fundraiser is about supporting global mission and giving hope to the hopeless. It's about supporting dear friends in a tight-knit community full of love and chickens. It's about taking a step of faith and trusting in God. Mostly it's about living outside of ourselves and helping others.

If you would like to donate to our fundraiser go here. If you'd like to donate to another fundraiser or start your own, we are hosting a giveaway for $100 to go towards the fundraiser of your choice. To enter the giveaway, comment below and let us know what you might try to raise funds for, or what organization you'd donate to. The winner will be chosen on June 30, 2013.

recipe: LAVENDER LEMONADE

It may be a little ridiculous, to some people, how much we looooove lavender. I suppose we've always loved lavender but it all got obsessive when we made this lavender simple syrup to pour over fresh strawberries. 'Twas delightful. So we started using the simple syrup for anything. We sweetened iced tea with it and even mixed it with whipped cream. And now, we've used it to make lemonade. This recipe is so simple. It really adds a special touch to plain lemonade and the lavender gives such a pretty color to the drink. It's refreshing and I imagine we will be keeping this beverage on hand all summer long!

Ingredients:
1 1/2 Cups Sugar
6 1/2 Cups Water
1 Cup Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice
1/3 Cup Dried Lavender, Crushed with a Meat Tenderizer

Directions:
1. Bring Sugar and 1 1/2 Cups Water to boil.
2. Add Crushed Lavender and remove pot from heat.
3. Let mixture cool and refrigerate for at least an hour. We let our sit for about 3.
4. Strain the mixture into a pitcher. It will be a darkish pink color.
5. Add the lemon juice and the rest of the water (5 cups).
6. Serve over ice and garnish with a lemon slice!

the DIY: CARDBOARD EARRINGS WITH OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL

We recently watched Oz the Great & Powerful and have done a tutorial that is inspired by the movie, Glinda specifically. This movie has so many great costumes and accessories, our first thoughts were to create something that we would wear while exploring the land of Oz.
We loved Glinda's crown so we decided to make an earring version of it. To make these earrings you will need:
- Carboard
- Scissors
- A Writing Utensil
- French Ear Wire Fixings (a.k.a. the earring things)
- Gold and Silver Spray Paint
- Quick Dry Tacky Glue
- A Push Pin

First, gather some cardboard, we just cut off some from a small box we had.

Peel off the top layer of paper on the cardboard. Be gentle so you don't bend the bottom.

Your cardboard should look like this.

Draw shapes on the back of the cardboard. Glinda's crown had a lot of elongated pentagons so, that was the main shape we were using. We also cut out a diamond shape. Just eyeball this part. Make sure that the shapes are drawn parallel to the corrugated-ness on the back. I messed this up the first time.

Cut out the shapes.

Spray paint the shapes sliver first and then add a little touch of gold on the bottoms. You're creating an ombre effect.
Put tacky glue on the backs of the diamond shapes, on the bottom half.
Glue them down over the pentagons.
Use a push pin to poke holes at the top of the earrings.
Attach the French ear wire fixing.
And you are done! Now I want to try to make other projects with cardboard. These earrings are so big yet so light. And if you didn't know they were made from cardboard, you might even think they were fancy enough to be worn by Glinda herself.
And if you haven't already seen Oz the Great & Powerful, you can buy the Blu-Ray Combo Pack here!
