1) We have hired refugees.
Whoa, this is a huge big major deal to us. This is what we've been wanting to do all along. Currently, they are working with us on a contract basis, so we pay them for each item they sew for us. We hope to be able to hire sewers full-time. Nashville has one of the largest refugee populations in the country, and we want to be able to give them jobs. We partnered with Sew For Hope to find these sewers. They train refugee women how to sew and give them a sewing machine. Pretty awesome.
2) Casey is working full-time for Hey Wanderer.
Maybe you know this and maybe you don't, but I have been a full time nurse for the past 2.5 years-the entire time Hey Wanderer has existed. Through lots of prayer and consideration, I left my full-time nursing job last Friday. Even when I decided to leave, I wasn't sure where I was going or how I was going make money. Honestly, I'm still not sure of that. I am still praying and asking God to guide my steps. I will probably end up working at a hospital 1-2 days a week for a while, but that's not even set in stone just yet.
One thing I know for sure is that Hey Wanderer hasn't been able to reach its potential because I have not been able to give it my full attention. Now is the time! Before I was a nurse, I was in sales and I have a degree in marketing. It's time to put that to work. Hey Wanderer mostly has grown by word of mouth. My focus is now going to be to reach out to store owners/bloggers/Instagrammers and just get our name and mission out to the world. So if you know anyone or your interested in collaborating, shoot us an email. We are always open to ideas.
My parents recently bought a house in East Nashville and are in the process of renovating it. Savannah and I will be renting it from them and renting out the upstairs on Air Bnb. We are super excited because our studio will be much larger than it is now. Get excited because there will be lots of before and after photos coming soon.
