No, it's not rocket science but, many of us have to do it. I admit... I don't clean my makeup brushes nearly as much as I should. If you plan for it, it really is easy enough to do once a month. All you need is some baby shampoo and a couple of towels. And your makeup brushes, of course.
Lay one of your towel down on a flat surface and roll up one of the ends.
Better view of the rolled up towel.
Take a brush and run it under some warm water.
Put it in a little bit of baby shampoo, I squeezed way too much on my hand but it was fine. You won't actually need this much.
Swirl the makeup brush around on the palm of your hand and rinse.
Repeat over and over.
When there is no more lathering on your hand, the brush is clean!
Squeeze as much water out as you can between your fingers.
Then do the same again with a towel.
Reshape the brush.
Lay the brush on your rolled up towel- the handle on the roll and the brush on the flat part of the towel. This will allow water to fall away from the handle rather back into it.
Repeat on all brushes! Let them dry overnight, AKA a while. Sometimes your bigger brushes will need to dry for a whole day. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

A quick question... Could normal shampoo be used as well, or is it important that it's baby shampoo?

Hey Emma! Normal shampoo will work just fine but baby shampoo is a little more gentle on your brushes. This allows for your brushes to last through more washes. If you have to use regular shampoo, it's no biggie. Just pick up some baby shampoo when you can for the next time you wash.
DeleteI just use normal shampoo, works just as good! An also, the makeup brushes you use everyday should be cleaned once a week!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip girls, i should clean my brushes more often...
ReplyDeleteBut did you honestly washed yours and photographed it all, while the water kept running in your sink?
Yes, honestly that's what we did.
DeleteClean brushes are the best! They feel so nice on your skin, not to mention how much better your makeup looks.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing you can do is comb them, if you have a troublesome brush that likes to lose bristles. One of my favorite brushes likes to drop bristles while I'm applying makeup and they blend in with my skin so I don't find them until hours later. So I started using a small comb after I wash it and it's really helped stop that from happening.
Thanks for that tip! I bet an eyelash comb would be good for that.
DeleteOR you could use Mary Kay's oil free eye makeup remover (http://www.marykay.ca/makeup/eyeproducts/remover/10029726/default.aspx) ... it is seriously THE best eye makeup remover I've ever used, AND it's amazing at cleaning brushes gently. I know it's not in everyone's budget, but just thought I'd mention it since I love it so much :)
ReplyDeleteAnother way to clean is using some soup and olive oil, but baby shampoo way is probably cheaper and easier =)))

I use a combination of soap to wash your dishes with and olive oil to clean my brushes
ReplyDeleteWow- easy. I admit I don't do this as much as I should. Thanks for the reminder!

I use this Sephora brush cleaner every day. It smells delicious and it just takes a spray! Then I clean them twice a month with shampoo! The sephora stuff I cannot recommend enough!
