8 Tips for Giving Your Winter Skin a Glow

Today we are talking about how to keep your summer glow all winter longer. The weather may be dull + grey  but that doesn't mean your skin has to be. It seems like the second we have to turn the heat on it's like my skin dries up like a prune and I cannot put enough lotion on. The cold air from the outside and the dry heated air on the inside is brutal on your skin. To combat this, I find it's best to change up your skin care routine to keep your skin look fresh + glowy. Below we have 8 tips to help give you skin that glows during the cold winter months.

1. Drink water. I know this is obvious and we need to drink a lot of water year round for our overall health and skin. But I personally find it a lot harder to drink enough water during the winter. Really, I just want to drink hot coffee all day. Drinking room temperature water as opposed to ice cold water helps. Better yet- drink warm water with a little lemon. Get a double whammy there. The point is to do what you need to do to get your water in during the winter.

2. Creams, creams, creams. Moisture is our friend, especially in the winter. We particularly love Coy Beauty Apple Stem Cell Cream which is a renewal cream that contains apple stem cells that help rejuvenate your skin. And all that sounds really fancy but does it work? Yes! We've both noticed our skin has a lovely glow since using this product.

3. Use a humidifier. Do what I say, not what I do because we don't have a humidifier. I have been wanting a humidifier for the longest. I'm putting one on my Christmas list right now. Bottom line is the dry air is killing your skin.

4. Get enough sleep. And when you don't or can't, use Coy Beauty Peptide Eye Cream to fake it. If you look tired and/or have dark circles under the eye, that's certainly not going to help your glowy appearance. Coy's Peptide Cream moisturizes your under eye area, reduces wrinkles, under eye bags, and puffiness.

5. Use a foundation that isn't mattifying but more luminous. I actually prefer a heavier foundation in the winter but wearing one that's matte will only make your skin look more dry and dull. This sounds crazy but I heard a tip from Drew Barrymore once to apply a thin layer of moisturizer as the the last step of applying makeup. You have to be careful not to move your makeup around but this definitely gives your skin a glow.

6. Exfoliate your skin. You gotta get rid of that dead skin. This is a good to do year round, and this is especially important in the winter.

7. Do a facial massage. You can read more about how to do this and the benefits here. Essentially a facial massage increases the circulation which allows your skin to heal + repair more quickly. It also helps reduce puffiness. This definitely something I need to add to my skin care routine.

8. De-stress. My favorite way to do this is taking a hot bath. It's so calming to me. But for you, maybe you just need some alone time, or reading time. Whatever you need to feel less stressed- do it! Because stress will show up on your skin very quickly.

Now it's time for me to practice what I preach! I've been good at applying my Coy Beauty Apple Stem Cell Cream + Peptide Eye Cream because I've seen the instant results. From these two things alone I've noticed a very natural glow on my bare skin. Now it's time to consistently put all the other steps to practice so I can really have a winter glow!
