Salted Caramel Eggnog Latte + A Lesson in Self-Care

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Danone and JM Smucker. The opinions and text are all mine.

Before I get into this delicious recipe and have a discussion about self-care, let's talk about my adorable coffee mug. It's only $5 and it's a part of the Opalhouse collection from Target. When we went to Target to get all the coffee supplies for this recipe, I was stopped in my tracks of a Christmas mug display. I love coffee mugs, and Christmas mugs?! Even better.

Also if you are Target shopper, you definitely need to download the Cartwheel app and get this Cartwheel deal that will give you up to 20% off selected coffee + creamers now until 12/22.

Today I read this article about carving out time in your morning routine to practice a little self-care. With the holidays upon us, this is the perfect time to make sure we are taking care of ourselves while we take care of others. I often don't allow myself enough time in the morning to not be rushed which is a terrible way to start the day.

Something I want to start doing is waking up early enough to make myself a cup of coffee and have time to myself before getting on my phone or talking to another human. I find something so comforting in make coffee, and I love the whole ritual of it. And when I allow myself to not be rushed in the morning, I love taking my time making coffee. I will try new recipes and experiment with different ways to brew coffee. Like this contraption here came out of total experimentation. Let me tell you how to use it.

You may have never seen coffee being made this way as I never had either. I have been wanting to experiment with pour over coffee but didn't want to invest in the tools before knowing how I felt about it. So in a moment of genius (naturally), I came up with the contraption. I must say, I was rather pleased with the results!

All you need is a fine mesh strainer, paper towels, hot water, and coffee. I used 3 tablespoons of coffee and 20 oz of water. You just slowly add the water little by little until you've used all your water. That's it! What I love about making coffee this way is that it takes a little patience, but not too much. It's a mostly active process unlike brewing coffee in a machine or doing French press coffee. You only wait for the water to boil and then you get to actually do something with your hands.

So regardless of how you choose to make your coffee or tea in the morning. There is value in taking time to yourself before checking in with anyone else. So maybe you need to set your alarm a little earlier. Tomorrow, I will be putting this idea to practice because I just got a new espresso machine that I'm excited to try out.

Have something fun waiting for you in the morning so you have something to look forward to. Maybe you'll try this new recipe tomorrow! Whatever it is, maybe give yourself little rewards in the morning to motivate you to get up so that this becomes a ritual. I know this is something we'll never regret. Sometimes we just need a little push to create new routines.

Salted Caramel Eggnog Latte Recipe

Ingredients:
12 oz strong brewed Dunkin Donuts Original Blend coffee
3 T egg nog **
3 T International Delight Caramel Macchiato Creamer **
1 t salted caramel sauce
pinch of salt

Directions: Mix the egg nog + creamer together. Pour into coffee. Stir in caramel until it is melted. Add the pinch of salt. Top with whipped cream if you like and drizzle on more caramel. Delicious!

** The amounts of egg nog + creamer you use will depend on how sweet you like your coffee. **

My dream for you is that you will get up before anyone else does in your house and make this delicious treat. Then I hope you'll take even 15 minutes to yourself doing exactly what you want to do- maybe that's reading the paper or reading a book. I would urge you to use this time away from technology. Nothing like a little moment of self-care to get your day started right. While I wouldn't suggest making this drink every morning, it's okay to indulge every once a while. The most important part is to take a little time for yourself to recharge.

Happy Holidays!!
