How To Get the Closest Shave

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Gillette Venus. The opinions and text are all mine.

I know we are all in winter hibernation and we're barely shaving our legs right now, but spring and summer will be here before you know it. And maybe if you're lucky you have a nice warm vacation planned in the midst of these winter months. Regardless, we could all probably use a little help getting the closest shave possible.

If you have coarse hair like I do, then you already know a close shave is a real challenge. I have to be very precise when shaving otherwise I will not have nice smooth legs when I'm done. But it is possible and now I'm going to pass on my tips to you with Gillette Venus Razors!

1. Exfoliate. The first time I realized how helpful this is was after spending a day at the beach. I shaved my legs that night (I have no idea why) and got the best shave of my life. My skin felt so soft! Obviously we can't all get a natural exfoliation via the beach every day, but you can make your own exfoliator at home using this tutorial.

2. Shave at the end of the shower. Your skin will be more hydrated and plump which is a better surface for shaving. Ever shaved at the beginning of the shower and then felt a little stubble by the end of your shower? Just wait until the end!

3. Use a good razor. This might trump all of the other rules. If you are using low quality razors or mens razors, then you are not going to get your best shave. I have been using Venus Razors since they hit the market. I have tried nearly every other razor and I always go back because nothing has ever compared. The lubrication strip on the razor is a game changer!

4. Change your razor often. You should change your razor every 5-10 shaves. And lucky for you, you can now get exactly what you need delivered straight to your door with the Venus Direct subscription. You just choose what kind of handle and razor refills you want and how often you want to receive them, and they will be delivered as often as you need them! You'll never have to shave with a dull razor again.

5. Use a thin layer of shaving cream. Using shaving cream definitely helps, but I have recently discovered that it's best to not put gobs of it on your legs. You just need a little lubrication, but if you have too much then it puts too much space between your razor and your legs. And it will clog up the razor blades. Less is more in this instance.

6. Rinse your razor frequently. This is probably the most annoying step because it's the most tedious, but it's helpful. You should rinse after every 2-3 passes. A clogged razor will prevent you from getting your closest shave.

7. Shave a second time. I know. I know. This time won't be as time consuming as the first time. The second time you can get all those stragglers you left behind. I also find that sometimes after shaving one time, it's like your hair starts growing back immediately in the shower. I know that sounds crazy. Surely, I'm not the only one this happens to. So, a second shave will ensure you get the smoothest legs possible and catch the spots you missed.

I hope that this post has given you some helpful tips on how to get the best shave possible! And don't forget to check out Venus Direct so you never run out of razors again!
